Axon
Carries messages away from cell body.
Cell Body
The headquarters of the neuron.
Dendrites
The part of a neuron that collects messages and passes them on to the axon.
Myelin
A soft and white material that forms a thick layer around the axons of neurons. It increases their transition speed.
Node Of Ranvier
A small gap in the myelin sheath. It is important for speeding up the process of transmitting signals.
Nucleus
The nucleus is an area in which protons and neutrons are composed.
Synaptic terminal
A part of an axon in which releases neurotransmitters.
Neuron connection
One neuron connects to an other: one neuron’s dendrites connect to the other neuron’s synaptic terminal. The dendrites get the message from the other neuron.
Schwann cell
is responsible for the formation and maintenance of the myelin sheath in neurons.
Axon hillock
A part of the axon in which initiates the propagation of the action potential down an axon.
Dendrite receptor
A very small part that is located on the dendrite and receives the signals from a synaptic terminal
